Important Notice: Microsoft Windows Vista

Windows Vista will not be support by the University until February of 2008.  As a result, we are recommending students purchase laptops with Windows XP this coming academic year.  If you are unable to find a retailer that still offers laptops with Windows XP then we recommend you purchase a Dell through our University contract.  You can purchase these through either TigerTech, in the MU Bookstore, or through our Dell Premiere Online Portal.

TigerTech

Laptops that meet our specifications are available from TigerTech at educational discount prices.  TigerTech also offers many software products to students at educational discount prices.  Microsoft Office 2007 is available at a student price.    Before purchasing any software products, check with TigerTech for educational discount pricing.

Tax Free Holiday

Missouri’s Tax Free holiday for back-to-school purchases is August 3-5.  TigerTech will take advanced orders for computer related items to be picked up and paid for during the tax free holiday.  Contact TigerTech for more details.

Dell

Dell products sold at TigerTech can also be purchased through the University Dell Premiere Online Portal at the same education discount prices offered at TigerTech.  Recommended bundles are available both at TigerTech and the Dell Premiere Portal.  The full Dell catalog is also available through the Premiere Portal with discount pricing.

Wireless

The School of Medicine and many parts of campus have wireless internet access available.

For more information go to  http://doit.missouri.edu/wireless/.

Special Note: In the past some students have purchased tablet computers.  While these are more expensive and more fragile, if you wish to purchase a tablet, it should meet the same specifications listed for laptops.
